Blanket Glacier Chalet, BC

Katie returns to the Revelstoke backcountry to spend an extended weekend with her longtime friend and owner-operator of the Blanket Glacier Chalet, Marty Schaffer, along with his seven-months pregnant wife Kate Vanhee. Along with a group of friends and their children, Katie learns what days off become when you have kids (and one on the way) and more importantly when you run a business that doesn’t have days off.

Banff, Alberta

What do you do when your life is split down the middle between managing horses and all your friends are skiers? You invented Skijor of course! At least that’s what Sam Mitchell did. Katie joins “Samazon” on her ‘day off’ that would be a normal person’s full time job. We see the course construction, main event, and what the subsequent impromptu 11k person street party looks like. Katie ends her day back at the horse ranch finding out about the power of a sunset ride and how sometimes days off are just the solitary moments of one.

Chamonix, France

Inspired to get out of her comfort zone, Katie heads to Chamonix to link up with her close friend Christina “Lusti” Lustenberger and Lusti’s boyfriend Guillaume “Gee” Pierrel – two of the strongest mountaineers and skiers in the world. In the past few years of dating, Lusti and Gee have picked off first descents around the world from Mt. Cook to Aconcagua and Robson. So, safe to say, that this couple’s idea of a day off is not going to be quite what Katie’s might look like. Lusti and Gee get Katie into some exposure, and after witnessing her reaction (tears), they change the plan and opt for an alpine picnic instead. Katie stays back in the village while Lusti and Gee attempt to ski the Brenva Spur, a line over near Courmayeur. But Gee’s plan doesn’t come together quite as easily as hoped, allowing for Katie to witness and assist in a famous Plan Gee…

Hokkaido + Nekoma Mtn, Japan

• Athlete(s): Jess Kimura, Marie-France Roy + Japanese competitors

Katie follows Jess Kimura to the Hokkaido backcountry to see what a day off looks like in her favorite place on earth with close friend Marie-France Roy the two world class snowboarders show Katie what they do when the cameras are off and they have the day just to themselves. She then pivots to the Japan Uninvited tournament, an all girls jib-fest showcasing the plethora of talent coming from Japan’s women’s snowboarding culture.

Deer Valley Resort, Utah

• Athlete(s): Kaylin Richardson, Ted Ligety, Chuck Mumford, Pep Fujas + kids

In an attempt to take a day off “Deer Valley style” Katie hits up local legends in the Park City area: Pep Fujas, Kaylin Richardson, Ted Ligety, Claudia and Chuck Mumford. But in a misunderstanding for the ages, these five think Katie has offered them the day off and bring their nine combined children to the ski resort for some free babysitting. Because for parents, a day off, is kid free. And for Katie, her day off becomes not what she thought she wanted, but really, what she needed.

Points North (Cordova), Alaska

Craig Murray and Sam Kuch head to Points North Heli Skiing in Cordova, Alaska, to go on “guest mode” – instead of being faced with the pressure of putting down the craziest segment of their professional skiing careers, these two superstars get the chance to sauna, eat oysters, explore the ice caves, and ski pow. But, with talent like that, Craig and Sam’s chill skiing ends up being pretty epic anyway.

Pemberton, Canada

• Athlete(s): Court “Blackbird” Larabee, Mason Mashon

Court “Blackbird” Larabee spends all of his time helping indigenous youth from his community get on the hill, so in an attempt to spread the day-off love, Katie asks him his dream day off, and with the help of Mason Mashon, she delivers. We learn about Court’s infectious laugh, the simple love of riding for yourself when riding is your job, and that no one calls it “Snowmobile Assisted Snowboarding.”

Whistler, BC

• Athlete(s): Craig McMorris, Sebastian Judge, Mark Sollors, Truth Smith

We meet Craig McMorris earlier in the film on set presenting for the Winter Olympics, but it isn’t until that spring that Katie is able to track the multi-hyphenate McMorris back to his home turf for a day off. The problem is Craig has a very different idea of what that is. Beginning with a contentious hockey game, Katie then rides the park with Craig and his friends, ending the day on a backcountry booter, and the revelation that days off are subjective, but the most important part of them is who you spend them with.
