Madison's own Free Hot Lunch were one of the zaniest trios to step onto a folk festival stage. Although they were capable of singing serious-minded tunes, including "Home of the Whales" and a harmonious rendition of John Sebastian's "Jug Band Music" (re-named "Wa-Ha Music", the group's moniker) the band were more at home with tongue-in-jowl, Jimmy Buffett-meets-the Marx Brothers ditties, including "Sex in a Volcano," "Meet Me Incognito" and "Sidewalks on Parade." They joked about a hangover during "I Hate to Wake Up in Nebraska" and wondered how penguins kissed during the title track of their third of six recordings, Penguin Love. Never mind that they were half a continent away from the ocean. The band performed nationally at major festivals, clubs and colleges, and in Madison regularly, from 1979-1994. They've re-united and played reunions in Madison in 2003, 2007, 2013 and return now in 2017.
Free Hot Lunch, featuring Jeff Berg (guitar, vocals), John Corning (acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin and vocals) and Jeff Laramie (guitar, vocals). The band will welcome special guests Randy Sabien and Peter Deakman for this concert performance.
